모든 학습의 후에는 반드시 내가 나중에 반드시 입으로 말해 볼 표현을 확실히 정리해야 합니다. 그렇지 않으면 밑 빠진 독에 물붓기는 같습니다!

*  Achievable goals: 현실적인 목표

* wrack (=rack) my brain 머리를 쥐어짜다

* crucial, critical : 중대, 결정 => 변화를 수반

critical mass 임계질량

* 균형을 잡다 : strike a balance

* those closest to me : 가까운 사람들

# You see (what I'm saying/talking about)? If all you remember in years to come is the ‘gay wizard’ joke, I’ve come out ahead of Baroness Mary Warnock. Achievable goals: the first step to self-improvement.
Actually, I have wracked my mind and heart for what I ought to say to you today. I have asked myself what I wish I had known at my own graduation, and what important lessons I have learned in the 21 years that have expired between that day and this.

I’ve come out ahead of him = I've done a better job than him

Achievable goals: 현실적인 목표

Actually, in fact:  그게 아니라, 시실은

* wrack (=rack) my brain 머리를 쥐어짜다

# I have come up with two answers. On this wonderful day when we are gathered together to celebrate your academic success, I have decided to talk to you about the benefits of failure. And as you stand on the threshold of what is sometimes called ‘real life’, I want to extol the crucial
importance of imagination.
These may seem quixotic or paradoxical choices, but please bear with me.

* extol : praise의 강한 표현 => 찬사를 부르다

* crucial, critical : 중대, 결정 => 변화를 수반

critical mass 임계질량

* quixotic : 돈키호테에서 유래 => 비현실적인 (unrealistic)

* bear with me : 참고 들어주세요!

# Looking back at the 21-year-old that I was at graduation, is a slightly uncomfortable experience for the 42-year-old that she has become. Half my lifetime ago, I was striking an uneasy balance between the ambition I had for myself, and what those closest to me expected of me.
I was convinced that the only thing I wanted to do, ever, was to write novels. However, my parents, both of whom came from impoverished backgrounds and neither of whom had been to college, took the view that my overactive imagination was an amusing personal quirk that would never (= was never going to) pay a mortgage, or secure a pension. I know that the irony strikes with the force of a cartoon anvil, now.

* Half my lifetime ago : 내 인생의 절반을 돌아보면

* 균형을 잡다 : strike a balance

* ambition 장기적인 목표, 인생의 꿈 = dream

* those closest to me : 가까운 사람들

* what those closest to me expected of me: 내 지인들이 내게 기대하는 것들

* I was convinced : 확신했다

* the only thing I wanted to do, ever, was to write novels

   => ever = at any time 언제라도 =  always 항상  <->  never

* impoverished : 가난에 찌든, 불우한 환경 => underprivilileged

*  overactive = hyperactive 지나치게 활발한

* quirk :  개성

A quirk is something unusual or interesting that happens by chance.
It was almost a quirk of fate he and Foy should have been in charge. [+ of]
The spate of storms and hurricanes in recent years could be a statistical quirk.
2. COUNTABLE NOUN
A quirk is a habit or aspect of a person's character which is odd or unusual.
Brown was fascinated by people's quirks and foibles.

* irony : 예상 밖, 생각과는 반대

*  anvil
An anvil is a heavy iron block on which hot metals are beaten into shape.
