* members of the faculty : 교수진

* distinguished guest  예빈 여러분

* reflect on her speech : 다시 한번 곱씹어 보다, 심사숙고하다

# J.K. Rowling Speaks at Harvard Commencement

* give / deliver a speech = speak 연설하다

* commence = begin

# President Faust, members of the Harvard Corporation and the Board of Overseers, members of the faculty, proud parents, and, above all, graduates.
The first thing I would like to say is ‘thank you.’ Not only has Harvard given me an extraordinary honour, but the weeks of fear and nausea I have endured at the thought of giving this commencement add ress have made me lose weight. A win-win situation! Now all I have to do is take deep breaths, squint at the red banners and convince myself that I am at the world’s largest Gryffindor reunion.

* members of the faculty : 교수진

* extraordinary = special

* nausea 속이 메쓰겁다

Nausea is the condition of feeling sick and the feeling that you are going to vomit.
I was overcome with a feeling of nausea.

* endure 힘든 걸 참아내다

* tolerate, stand : 싫은 걸 참아내다 => stand는 항상 "참을 수 없다"는 부정문으로만 사용함

* squint : 실눈을 뜨다

* convince myself that ~ 자기 최면을 걸다

* reunion 동문회

# Delivering a commencement address is a great responsibility; or so I thought until I cast my mind back to my own graduation. The commencement speaker that day was the distinguished British philosopher Baroness Mary Warnock. Reflecting on her speech has helped me enormously in writing this one, because it turns out that I can’t remember a single word she said. This liberating discovery enables me to proceed without any fear that I might inadvertently influence you to abandon promising careers in business, the law or politics for the giddy delights of becoming a gay wizard.

* deliver = give

* or so I thought until : 그렇게 생각했다 그런데 = 착각   // until 그러다가 (상황의 변화)

* cast 던지다 => 낚시대, 표를 던지다(vote)

If something casts a light or shadow somewhere, it causes it to appear there.

[written]

The moon cast a bright light over the yard. [VERB noun preposition]
They flew in over the beach, casting a huge shadow. [VERB noun]

* cast my mind back to my own graduation : 그때의 기억을 되살려봤다

   = try to recall my own graduation

*  the distinguished British philosopher :  distinguished 유명한

*  distinguished guest  예빈 여러분

a person who is staying with you, or a person you have invited to a social occasion, such as a party.

Reunions have been held annually ever since at various venues with many distinguished guests.

* reflect on her speech : 다시 한번 곱씹어 보다, 심사숙고하다

The manager demanded time to reflect (on what to do).
[ + that ] She reflected that this was probably the last time she would see him.

* it turns out that ~ : 알고보니 그러더라~

* liberating : 책임감, 부담감에서 해방

making you feel free and able to behave as you like:
Taking all your clothes off can be a very liberating experience.

* enables me to ~ = allow = let = can 과 같다

in a way that is not intentional:
He inadvertently deleted the file.
I inadvertently ended up on the wrong street.

* promising careers: 전도유망한

* trade A for B :교환X => A를 주고 B를 받다

* giddy : 어지러운
