However a stock has come to your attention, whether via the office,
the shopping mall, something you ate, something you bought, or something you
heard from your broker, your mother-in-law, or even from Ivan Boesky’s parole
officer, the discovery is not a buy signal. Just because Dunkin’ Donuts is always
crowded or Reynolds Metals has more aluminum orders than it can handle
doesn’t mean you ought to own the stock. Not yet. What you’ve got so far is
simply a lead to a story that has to be developed.

 

☞ parole:  permission for a prisoner to leave prison before the official time if they promise to obey particular rules

on parole: He could be out on parole in two years.

☞ 주식이 당신의 관심을 끈다고 할지라도, 그건 매수신호가 아니다. 라고 피터 린치가 말하고 있습니다. 무조건 주위에서 좋은 주식일 것 같다고, 눈에 띄었다고, 사서는 안 된다는 말입니다.

☞ 단순히 던킨 도너츠 매장이 붐빈다고, 주식을 보유하라는 신호는 아니라는 말입니다.  뜨금하지 않나요? 코로나 거리두기가 거의 해제되었습니다. 그래서 이번 주에 가족들과 신세계백화점에 갑니다. 아니, 이렇게 사람들이 많아? 피터 린치가 생활 속에서 발견하라고 했어? 그래서 신세계백화점 주식을 사기로 결심합니다. 그런데 피터 린치가 바로 사지 말라고 합니다(웃음).
